Hemp oil stains: Do’s & Don’ts

Obey these rules of thumb and leave obstinate spots in Dutch:

  1. Act fast – the longer hemp oil stains remain untreated, the harder they are to remove. Most marks vanish completely if you address them right off the bat.
  2. Dab…  till you drop – for fresh spills always dab up the excess first.
  3. Pre-treat old hemp oil stains and prevent them from setting in.
  4. Treat both sides of the item – apply a cleaning agent on the topside and underside of the fabric.

Now that all bases are covered, let the cleaning begin. Follow these tips and learn how to get hemp oil stains out of your clothes.

Hack #1: Get Rid of Hemp Oil Stains on Clothes With Baking Soda

Gather all cleaning supplies:

  1. Paper towels;
  2. Baking soda;
  3. Old toothbrush;
  4. Mild dish soap.

And get down to tackle the hemp oil stain:

For fresh splits, absorb the excess oil with a paper towel.

  • Cover the blotch with baking soda.
  • Sprinkle a light coating of the powder over the affected area and let it sit for half an hour. Use an old toothbrush to scrub the soda out.

Soon you will see the powder clumping up, lifting the oily residue.

Word of caution here: Don’t rub vigorously as you may damage the shirt.

  • Brush the excess soda off and apply dishwashing detergent directly to the smear.
  • Dab gently to work the solution deep into the fabric.
  • Launder the piece on the warmest setting safe for the linen.

Hot water helps remove oil stains, however, it could be aggressive on delicate fabrics.

Before you use a dryer, always check if the blemish is out. The heat might set the spot and make it a permanent fixture.

Hack #2: Remove Hemp Oil Stains From Clothes With Cornstarch and Vinegar

Besides products for cooking and seasoning, cornstarch and vinegar work wonders in the combat with hemp oil stains. Especially in case of fresh spills. Both ingredients create the perfect DIY spot remover to many adamant spots, including those left by accidental spillages of CBD liquid

Dust cornstarch on the smudge and allow it to absorb as much oily residue as possible. After half an hour, shrug the excess starch off. Damp a clean microfiber cloth with white vinegar and rub the hemp oil mark until it disappears. Wash, rinse and dry as usual.

Note of caution: Vinegar might be harsh on some fabrics. Hence, performing a spot test on a small patch of the shirt first is always a great idea.

Did you know you can use CBD oil in the kitchen, too?

Hack #3: Salt & Rubbing Alcohol Hemp Oil Stains Remover

Here is another game-changer trick to ward off CBD oil accidents: The robust combination against bothersome smears consists of rubbing alcohol and a pinch of table salt in ratio 3:1.

  • Mix both ingredients and spread the mixture over the oily spillage on your clothing.
  • Allow the garment to absorb the solvent for 15 minutes.
  • Double-check the stain is fully gone and throw it in the laundry basket.

Hack #4: Take CBD Oil Stains Out of Clothes With Aloe Vera

Aloe vera gel is known to defeat oil-based spots in ease. The secret move here is to use the gel as a pre-wash hemp oil stain remover.

To do so,

  • Blot any excess oil with a clean rag first.
  • Then, squirt aloe vera onto the blemish.
  • Rub it with an old toothbrush.
  • Let the plant gel work for a few minutes.
  • Toss the garment into your washer and don’t worry about rinsing the aloe vera gel – it dissolves completely in the laundry cycle.

Bonus Tip: Removing Set in Hemp Oil Stains From Clothes & Furniture

Spilt hemp oil on your favorite shirt last week but never had the time to clean the stain out? Or worse, the liquid made its way to your couch, leaving a stubborn oil mark on the upholstery? Believe it or not, even the old set-in oil marks are possible to remove, no elbow grease needed.

Here is a simple trick to get set-in blemishes off. All you need is just a slight upgrade of Hack #1, to wit:

  1. Baking soda
  2. Mild dish soap
  3. Water
  4. Natural oxygen bleach

Get down to action:

Since the hemp oil stain is already set in, you’ll have to pre-treat it first.

  • Pour several drops of the dish soap over the spot.
  • Wet regular kitchen sponge and work the solution into the oily smudge.
  • Coat the affected area with baking soda and blot thoroughly. Increase the amount of soda to the point where a thick paste-like covers the smudge.
  • Wait an hour before you rinse it off.
  • Damp the piece (or the soiled area of the furniture) with warm water and ½ scoop of chlorine-free and color-safe oxygen bleach.
  • Wait for thirty minutes and wash as per the instructions on the care tag.

Alternatively, rinse the treated patch of the furniture with lukewarm water with a clean kitchen sponge.

Friendly reminder: Perform a spot test to check for any discolouration.
